FILM: The NFB Mediatheque has free screenings for both Black History Month and Toronto's WinterCity Festival. All this month the NFB will have five films about the history of Canada's black community available for free at the digital viewing stations. The titles available are In the Name of the Mother and the Son, Hardwood, Black Soul/Âme Noire, Speakers for the Dead, Fields of Endless Day, and Dresden Story. For WinterCity, the NFB is screening some "Animation Favourites" tonight, including classics such as The Big Snit, The Cat Came Back, and The Sweater, and recent award-winners such as Runaway and Land of the Heads. FILM: Already a favourite of Torontoist, Nollywood Babylon is kicking off a three-night stint tonight at the NFB Mediatheque. This NFB-produced documentary explores one of the largest film industries in the world, based in one of the poorest nations in the world: Nigeria. The B-movie aesthetics and the clash of "traditional mysticism and modern culture" makes for a fascinating look at this largely unexplored area of Nigerian life. THEATRE: Suitcase Theatre’s new production, The House That Jack Built, begins today and runs throughout this March Break. The musical, based on the nursery rhyme of the same name, uses colourful masks as well as miniature and oversized puppetry for a family theatre experience.
