Heroes and Villains 2008: Superheroes and Supervillains

On Christmas and Boxing Day, we picked the heroes and villains of 2008, and, in polls starting last week and ending yesterday, you chose the superheroes and supervillains from amongst them (and tossed in a few suggestions of your own). With a little less than a thousand votes cast in each category, there were more than a few surprises: a supervillain who, in a field of nineteen candidates, took nearly two-fifths of the votes; a tie between man and machine for superhero of the year; and a supervillain who was not among our original villains but who nearly cracked the top five nonetheless.

Heroes and Villains 2008: The Vote

On Christmas Day, Torontoist named twenty heroes: the people, places, and things that made our city better in 2008; on Boxing Day, we named nineteen villains that did their best to make it worse. We explained our choices, and now it's your turn to pick--until January 5, you can cast your vote below for who you think this city's biggest hero and biggest villain were in 2008, and we'll anoint the consensus pick the superhero and supervillain of the year. For the first time, you're also allowed to enter your own superhero and supervillain if you feel that our choices were all woefully inadequate (though you should definitely justify your nominee in the comments).

Torontoist is ending the year by naming our Heroes and Villains of 2008--the people, places, and things that we've either fallen head over heels in love with or developed uncontrollable rage towards over the past twelve months, with one hero and one villain selected by each participating staff member. On Christmas Day: the heroes. On Boxing Day: the villains. And next week, cast your vote to determine the Superhero and Supervillain of the year.
