Microsoft's brilliant marketing installation, an 1800sqft ice house in Dundas Square, tells you precisely what will happen when you install Vista: your computer will freeze. Perhaps the Redmond, Washington-based software company believed Canadians, who all live in igloos, would feel right at home in their icy digs. We kid, but when three University of Toronto students saw the house that Gates built, they immediately thought "house party".
SSRI and N3554 of Überave, known for their parties in unusual places like parking garages, and Rothko Institute, known for their surprisingly loud portable soundsystem, invite you to join them for a seemingly impromptu "apples and penguins" themed dance party in the chateau d'glace. Expect free Ubuntu distros, plenty of Mac fanboys and maybe even some fruit.
The fun starts at 6 PM this evening and continues until the security gets a clue!

"when you install Vista: your computer will freeze."
:P
I've been using Vista for about a month now. I'm not used to it; I can't seem to find my documents half the time, and other versions of Microsoft Word won't open Word 2007 documents. I learned that the hard way. Grrr.
The ice house doorway is roped off and only a certain number of people can enter at a time, so I don't know how Uberave is going to pull this off...
So much for keeping a secret! This is the third place I've seen this posted. Good luck, looking forward to the photos and video but me tinks security will be waiting!
Don't forget your dancing mittens.

Brilliant img!
And I'm almost surprised that is was Microsoft over Apple who built this house (tiny castle) -
I mean it's so sexy on the inside... Who knew they could pull it off?
Either way, there's nothing like usurping their occasion! Let the fanboys converge!
wonder how much electricity it uses to make that ice house - not very environmentally friendly Bill!
Well the party was thwarted early... about 12 security guards and seemingly all the Microsoft employees in Canada showed up to cancel the event before it started. At 6 PM the music started, but with only 10 or so in attendance, after a quick parade around the block and some banner waving and shouting, the party dispersed.
Photos coming soon.
After the power-tripping jerk rent-a-cop in a ski mask told us to beat it, we had a little sidewalk party next to the ice castle before an impromtu rush-hour subway party. We rode the subway around for a while, ending up at union, where we had a marching rave through the skywalk and then we finished the night with a party outside of the skydome (not the rogers centre). I can't wait to see the pics.
p.s. although it did take a while for us to all congregate, there was definately more than 10 people!
