The Ice House That Gates Built

2007_01_30IceHouseBed.jpg

So, about that giant ice house that Microsoft put up in Dundas Square: apparently 270,000 pounds of ice went into the construction of the 1,800 square foot structure, which includes a fully sculpted kitchen, dining room, study, living room, two bedrooms and bathroom all wired-up with televisions and computers (real, as opposed to of the ice variety) running demos of Vista and Office 2007. It's lucky that the weather has finally decided to act wintery, because expensive electronics don't tend to get along with melting slush.

The house is open to the public between 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. today through Saturday. Highlights include the working ice toilet paper holder, ice fire place, ice microwave, and the sweet ice stereo system. Bring mittens.

I can't help but think that this is analogous to how my computer is going to freeze if I try to install Vista.

typical american, we don't all build our houses out of ice.

This looks awesome. I'll have to remember to get down there to look at it before they take a blowtorch to the place.

I so need to take a dump in that toilet

You know what would have been cooler? 1800 square feet of permanent housing for the homeless.

Thanks Bill, we forgot that you're rich.

Dear Mr. Gates,

Please be more like rek. rek is so right-on. If rek had your money it would totally go towards building housing for the homeless. Totally.

And once rek gets done posting self-righteous comments on Torontoist, rek is going to going back to to raising money for the homeless.

rek is my hero. You tell 'em, rek!

GATES GOT PWNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He makes lots of computers taht freeze too

There is going to be some madness in the ice house on Friday.

Bill Gates is arguably the world's greatest philanthropist and humanitarian today. And he doesn't even work for Microsoft anymore. Although him and I are both former Time Magazine persons of the year, go figure.

Hey, and I was Time Magazine person of the year this year!
