Contest: Metric's Live It Out

emily_haines12_05.jpgPlaces you might find Emily Haines and her trademark short-skirt:

- Opening for the Rolling Stones.

- Listening to Sonic Youth.

- Eating Gnocchi at Terroni.

- Singing with Broken Social Scene in January. (Though when playing with BSS, it's tight jeans as opposed to the mini-skirt.)

- On Torontoist's contest page.

metric-12-05.gifTo win a copy of her band's latest album, Live It Out, and a Metric tee-shirt, please send an email over here including your name, gender (for the shirt size, ok?) and mailing address. Also, just for kicks, tell us which song on the new Broken Social Scene album Ms Haines sings on. Think you can do that? Thanks.

Contest closes December 31, 2005.

Every time I walk by the Beaconsfield I dip in to see if she's there. I hear she like to go to hear whats-his-face spin whats-his-tunes. Is that considered stalking?

Depends how often you "walk by the Beaconsfield." If you do it every night... then maybe.

She's pretty cute and has a nice voice but I hear she's a stone cold bitch.

metric are going to open for the rolling stones at MSG next month. from the mod club to madison square garden wow!

who really cares about where she will be with her skirt?
not me.
there are plenty of other talented groups in this city.. but i guess you won't know until metric or bss says that they're cool.

veruca salt + "indie" marketing = metric

I was looking around on ROD last night, and noticed that they have a "Free" section. All sorts of stuf you can watch, gratis. One of the sections is "Indie Music". All sorts of Canadian Indie videos! Cool!

BSS and Metric have 4 and 3 videos(respectively). Watched them all last night. Came to the conclusion that I'm not all that excited byt them. I mean, I'm not saying they're shit or anything, but I fail to see the correlation between their songs and the MASSIVE hype they get. I mean, if I had 1800 people in my band, I think I could write better songs than BSS brings to the table.

But thats just one hacks opinion.

If you're wondering if Emily Haines is the 'cold bitch' as rumored, you're probably right. Study the eyes and Emily Haines' eyes look unmistakebly ruthless, arrogant, mean and power hungry. I could be wrong, but 98% of the time the eyes don't lie, even with "cute" or "pretty" people who spend alot of time working on and developing their public image like this one obviously does. Saw a picture of Emily Haines in the Fall 2005 Under the Radar pg. 88. If you look at the reflection of her face in the water, it also suggests that inside 'Emily Haines'lurks an evil or at least mean spirited being. Even on the cover of that Under the Radar issue her body language suggests someone quite cold, smug and power hungry, while Tegan and Sara look angelic in comparison.

I think her eyes are dreamy.

I get the sense that she's more aloof (or cold, smug and evil) than other Toronto indie musicians... that being said she probably gets hit on by more Toronto indie fans than most musicians.

Live Out Loud?

thanks, nancy.

mostly unrelated to above thread but got into a great conversation with a DJ in vegas last night after he played metric. interesting to get a take on the canadian and toronto music scene from a non-torontonian.
some great feedback!

let's face it, emily haines is every indie boy's wet dream.
